CD is good, but new laptop will not run application on CD
Just got a new Alienware laptop for the purpose of running VV and World of Warcraft... but mostly VV. The Alienware was the top of the line stuff for a good price. Alienware is now owned by Dell, but the computer had barely anything else installed by XP Home SP2 and Nero.
Specs:
Dual Core Pentiums 1.66MHz
1 GB memory
Intel motherboard
RealTek HD sound
I put the VV 10.5 Pro USB CD into the laptop and I noticed that it didn't autorun. I double-clicked the CD-ROM in My Computer and it tried to run (the mouse turned into the hourglass), but nothing happened. I thought that there was something wrong with my laptops CD-ROM so I put the CD into my desktop. After closing the tray the program started on my desktop, so my thoughts are confirmed about my CD-ROM. I thought I would share my desktop CD-ROM and attempt to install that way, but low and behold the same thing happens as I mentioned earlier - hourglass mouse, a moment, then nothing.
I have fully installed VV on my desktop just to confirm that the CD works. I have copied all the files from the CD (over the network) to my laptop to attempt to install and the hourglass thing still happens. I also attempted to just copy the files and registry entries from my desktop to my laptop, but that didn't work either (it was a last-ditch attempt).
I have tried almost all the methods listed on these and other forums, including running the Clean install in the Support directory on the CD (which actually does run on my laptop). I have uninstalled all my windows updates on my laptop, but remembered afterwards that it came WITH SP2. The only real difference I can see between my desktop and laptop is that my laptop has the dual-core pentiums, while the desktop has an Athlon 64bit; the desktop has XP Pro, and the laptop has XP home SP2.
The only options I can think of to try now are installing a copy of XP home w/o SP2 on the laptop... but I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone else had other ideas.
Thanks for reading my extra-large post and any help you can offer.

From what you're saying, it
From what you're saying, it would appear that you were able to access the contents of the CD on your laptop, presumably using Windows Explorer or My Computer. You refer to " Clean install" in the Support directory. However the only "clean" files in that directory are the ViaClean and cleannormal.exe. I am therefore rather puzzled as to what you mean.
If I'm right that you can access the contents of the CD, then you only have to click-on "setup.exe", and the installation will proceed.
Another alternative is to transfer the contents of the CD to the hard drive of your laptop. If you have a back-up external hard drive, or a large enough memory stick, you could copy the contents of the CD to your desktop and then to your external hard drive or memory stick. You should then be able to copy from these on to your laptop, and run the set up directly within the laptop hard drive.
I am using a laptop with an AMD Semperon 1.8 Mhz, XP SP 2 updated as of yesterday, and I have never had any installation, or re-installation, problems. (Re-installation has been necessary from time to time when XP does naughty things that prevent me starting up VV. I never have such problems with Win 2000 on my desktop.)

Correct, I can explore the
Correct, I can explore the contents of the CD using explorer, I can read all the help and readme files, I can execute the CleanInstall, I can actually execute the installation of the Rt_tts setup file, but the main setup.exe will NOT run. I have copied all the files from the CD-ROM to my laptop's hard drive and it still will not run any differently. I have tried to install and run the files over the network on a different CD-ROM and that does not work either. I'm at a loss.
I would think there's
I would think there's probably corruption of the setup.exe. I can only suggest that you send the disc back and look for replacement.
Alternatively, if you send me your e-mail address, or confirm that your e-mail address is in the contacts in your speech computing account, I will e-mail you the setup.exe which is only 52 Kb.

Re-reading your original
Re-reading your original post, it would appear that there is nothing wrong with your CD since it installed in your desktop. Therefore there must be something wrong with your XP on the laptop which is blocking the set up. This pretty obvious.
A suggestion: click-on setup.exe, and when you get the hourglass, press the Windows key and see what is in the task bar. If you see the setup tab, click on that and see does it bring up the blue first window, and if it does, then proceed.
There is no doubt that XP does cause problems.
One of the things that happens to me when I have to re-install in my laptop XP, is that it will not import the navigation macros, and a popup window with an error message comes up, and I click OK in that in respect of every macro that is trying to be imported until I get to the end of the installation process.
Having then put back my user (see previous posts), I start ViaVoice, set up the audio and then go to Tools and Navigation Macros, and import the personal navigation (and if necessary my dictation macros) that I had saved, and then import the standard navigation macros I want from the CD (or the setup folder in my hard drive) one at a time. All of this only takes a few minutes.
As I said I have never had any problems with my desktop Win 2000 since the day that I installed 10.5 and I have never had to re-install. In fact on recollection, when I had Win 2000 on my last laptop, using the pre-10.5 ViaVoice 10 USB, I never had to do a reinstall.

I honestly cannot believe
I honestly cannot believe what the final solution was. This is two days and at least 8 hours at my computer later, but all I had to do was to disable my MSNMusic assistant (Taskmanager, End Process). The moment I did that the previous attempts to run the setup.exe popped up on my computer.
So, it apparently works fine on XP Home SP2, with Core Duo, etc... I just had to disable my MSN music utility that lets me play my purchased music.
That's terrific. Delighted
That's terrific. Delighted to hear you have solved the problem.
I would be very interested to hear how well VV runs on your laptop compared to your desktop, and whether the Dual Core processer makes any difference.
