Unable to access recordings (PocketPC) DNS9

Hi All,

I have got DNS9 on my PC. It works fine on my PC however I tried to use my 02XDA mini pocketpc device as a recording device for the same. I created a new user. I recorded a 15 minute speech using Resco Audio recorder on the device in .wav format with 11025Hz, 16bits, mono, 176kbps. When I tried to create user files the software says taht "Unable to access recordings. Make sure your Pocket PC device is connected properly."

There are two queries I have.
1. What am I doing wrong and how can I cure this problem.
2. While looking at the help menu on how to record pocket pc device one of the steps states "Start Nuance Voice Recorder on your Pocket PC." Where can I get this Nuance Voice Recorder?

Please help me find a solution.

Best regards,
ND

I have the Voice Recorder on

I have the Voice Recorder on my Pocket PC. The problem is that I don't remember how I got it there. It seems there was an install option somewhere for it on the Install CD. I do know that the recordings require a LOT of storage so I've never been able to use it very much.

The other thing that comes to mind is that I'm not sure this is available on all versions of DNS. Which version (Standard/Preferred/Professional) do you have?

Its Preferred version. I

Its Preferred version.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled DNS while keeping my PPC connected and still nothing has happpened.

You seem to be lucky that you have got it on your PPC.

I have got 1gb on my memory card. I guess it will be enough for the recording to be stored and then transfered to the PC.

I think I remember! At

I think I remember! At least I hope this is accurate. I can't try this as my WinDoze machine is awaiting a cpu fan and not being used right now.

I think it was installed on the PPC when I created a user that would be able to use dictation from the Pocket PC device. So try creating a new user and see if the input can be set from a Pocket PC. Have the PPC connected during this and I think that's when it went in. Have your install CD handy just in case. Don't know if it will need this or not.

I just downloaded the DNS 9 User Guide and am amazed at the nearly complete lack of any information on this! About all I found was that this feature is available in Preferred or higher editions. Wow.

Yeah, I did exactly as you

Yeah, I did exactly as you have stated much before posting this. However, I gave it another go and created a new user.

When I created a new user the user files are created and the window opens which states that "Dragon NaturallySpeaking has detected that you are using a pocketpc device. Please indicate whether you would like to: Start a new recording session or transfer a training file from your pocketpc"

This shows that my pocketpc is recognised however, as you said in your message somehow nothing gets installed on the pocketpc.

Furthermore, when I go ahead with either option the same message appears "unable to access recordings. Make sure your pocket PC device is connected properly."

Don't know I feel like we are back to square one. And you are so right, there is no info in the manual or anywhere regarding this problem.

Ok. Figured it out. I have

Ok. Figured it out. I have Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional 8 so it may be a bit different on DNS 9 Preferred.

Put the installation disk into a drive. Exit the install program as you don't need it to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, look for a directory that says "Voice Recorder". Go into there and run the setup.exe program. Be sure your PPC is attached and communicating of course.

It should take it from there.

Let me know how you fare with this!

Was I off-base or what?!

Bull's Eye. Perfectly

Bull's Eye. Perfectly worked. I am amazed that you found this out. Gosh, it's just crazy that people at DNS don't provide any help regarding this in the manual or anywhere.

Thanks a TON...

This solution should be blogged somewhere for PPC users, don't you think?

I think we've done that. Laughing out loud

This site is Googled several times a day so if they search they would find it.

Let me now how you manage with it. I won't be able to know until I have a LOT more storage on the PPC!

Apparently you didn't look too hard. This is all completely explained in the online help. Just search for Pocket PC.
