Testing a new feature

For those of you that pay attention, you may have noticed that the search box has increased in size and says "Google Custom Search" inside it.

So what is it?

A Custom Search Engine from Google. I am testing this to see what you think of it. Suggestions for sites to add on to it are welcome! I currently have it searching 39 locations so we'll see how that goes. Will it be too much or not enough?

What happens is when you put in your search query, it will search all the included sites for information to help you. It searches Speech Computing as well as other forums that I know of, university and other educational sites, manufacturer's sites that I'm aware of and a few vendor sites. I've tried to keep it to SR sites as much as possible.

Let me know what you think.

Its automatically better

Its automatically better because it doesn't reject single letter terms like the former search box, e.g., "DNS 9 installation" would reject "9" and search on "DNS installation". The additional sites are just jelly in the doughnut.

OTOH, there seems to be a built-in spell-checker new since my last posting, and its suspect. Or maybe its been hijacked by the PC food police, because it doesn't like my "doughnut"! Nor "DNS" for that matter.

Sigh, on balance a net plus I guess, but this has stressed me out -- time to order a triple cheese pizza with anchovy paste.

I assure you that I've not added the cyber spelling police to the site. However, I've gained a spell-checker recently as well. The only place I can account for such would be my recent upgrade to IE 7 on my Windoze box (currently down and waiting for a CPU fan). Here on the Linux box it has non-such.

I think you were looking for a pizza excuse and I provided a good one!

In my case it would be

In my case it would be Firefox 2.0, but that's probably what it is. On the negative side, I gotta retract this gripe; on the positive side, I get to take it up somewhere new!

Hmmm... I put that in a day or so after IE7. Now I'm unsure which it is doing that! Must be Firefox 2 since you have it happening also. I've not paid attention to what browser is doing it either!
