Adding words to vocab list from documents

Posting this to the multi-lingual forum because it seems to be a problem unique to my french user profile(s).

I'm using the French-Canadian version of DNS 8 Preferred, with multiple user profiles (some english, some french). For all my profiles, I'm using the "Add Words from Documents" feature to add words to the vocab list for each user. The documents that I'm using to do this have lots of words with incorrect capitalization (e.g. "canada" instead of "Canada"), and I don't want to pick those up. So, in the discovery config window, I choose "Find unknown words", "Preview the list", and "Adapt to writing style". I do not choose "find known words with unknown capitalization".

In my english user profiles, the results are exactly what I expect: a small list of new words is displayed for me to accept, I accept them, and they get added. When I go the the Vocabulary Editor and select "Custom Words", I see this list of words that I just added. Just this list, nothing else.

In my french user profiles, it's not the same. I see a small list of new words to accept, I accept them, and they get added (there's usually only 3 or 4). When I go to the vocabulary editor and select "Custom Words", I see the list of words that I just added, but I also see all those proper nouns with incorrect capitalization - which I don't want.

I've discovered that I can prevent these unwanted forms from getting added by deselecting the "adapt to writing style" option, but that's not really what I want to do.

So here are my questions:
1) Has anybody else noticed this?
2) If I delete these unwanted forms using the vocabulary editor, does it *completely* delete them, or does it just delete them from the Active Vocabulary? (I'd like them completely deleted)
3) Does anyone have any other workarounds to suggest?
4) Does this sound like a bug to anyone else? And if it does... do you know how to report a bug to Nuance without paying $10? Smiling (Their site says they don't "necessarily" monitor the community, and I'm still waiting for my password anyway)

Answers to any or all of these questions is appreciated.

Thanks,

Julie

Julie, There is a Nuance

Julie,

There is a Nuance "bug report" page - but of course they may not now be interested in fixing problems in DNS 8:

You probably won't like the suggestion regarding your documents for analysis but why not prepare them correctly before analysis.

First carefully spell check.

Remove: Graphics, Headers & Footers (or move the text into the document proper), Numeric Tables, Boilerplate text, email headers.

Convert multiple columns to a single column.

Finally after carefully proof reading save the whole document(s) to an unformatted .txt file.

This may take some time but once it is done you have a document(s) that can be used again and again for analysis if you need to set up Dragon as a brand new user, on a new PC or even if you upgrade to DNS 9 or 10.

Thanks for the tips,

Thanks for the tips, Graham.

I submitted my bug report, and begged for a work-around, so cross your fingers for me that they'll deign to answer me.

In the meantime, I'm still waiting for my password to access their community, and nobody at Nuance seems to know who to call to find out why my registration failed. (I've tried customer service, sales, customer service again, technical support, and most recently the webmaster (no response from him yet). That place is just a big black hole. And I thought the telephone company was bad!)

I'm starting to think that it would be OK if I didn't adapt to the Writing Style of the document, but since the "don't learn new capitalization rules" tick box doesn't do what it says, I'm a bit worried that the "adapt style" tick box doesn't do what it says... but that is much harder to ascertain.

This is so difficult! I don't really care about getting the bug fixed: I just want to know the nature of the bug so that I can work around it properly!
