Correction Window "Select [Number]" Doesn't work
Submitted by snsd on Mon, 10/09/2006 - 10:37.
Hi:
When I use the command "Correct [word(s)]", the correct word(s)get highlighted and the pop-up correction window opens correctly. However, when I say "Select [Number]" where [Number] is the word in the list I want to use to correct the incorrect word, there is no response. It worked perfectly until recently. When I use the keyboard to select the desired word from the list, it works perfectly. Any idea as to why it's working with the keyboard and not with my voice?
Thanks,
Dave

I assume you're using Vista?
I assume you're using Vista? Perhaps RC1?
I'm not sure what you mean by "select [Number]". Normally you should just say "[number] OK". When you see the little numbers around the screen that represent the multiple choices there is no need to say "Select".
"Select" is a separate command that means what it does in the rest of Windows text apps: pick a work or paragraph that you plan to do something with (like delete or boldface).

Thanks for the response. I'm using Windows XP and Office 2003.
I don't remember where I got the guide, but the instructions for selecting a word/phrase form the correction list state:
Say "Select [number]" Select one of the alternate phrases or words from the alternate list to make a correction. For number, substitute the number of the entry in the alternate list that you want to use.
That's the way I've always done it and works on one of my laptops but just stopped working on the other one. When I try "[number] OK" as per your suggestion, the highlighted word gets replaced with the literal speech stated. eg. "two OK" or "five OK"...
Any other ideas? Should I try reinstalling MS SR?

"Select [1-9]" is the
"Select [1-9]" is the correct phrase for Office 2003 on Windows XP (I just checked the source code myself to be 100% sure).
The phrase that Richard suggested ("1 OK") is what you'd use on Vista using Office XP, Office 2003, or Office 2007 (since the correct piece is actually part of the underlying OS and not part of Office itself).
Are you having any recognition accuracy problems in other places?

Thanks for the response Rob.
Thanks for the response Rob. I don't seem to be having any other recognition problems out of the ordinary. I was thinking about uninstalling and reinstalling MS Speech - if that is possible - to see if that corrected the problem - but was hoping I wouldn't have to go that route.
