Speech Computing User Guide
Welcome to Speech Computing!
I've noted that many people are having difficulty understanding how to use this site. It's quite a transition to go from an email program to a website. To help, I started this guide to assist you in using it. If you have suggestions, please use the Contact Us form.
This guide describes how to get started with the Speech Computing website. It covers basic topics such as registering for an account, logging in, changing your account settings, and creating content (leaving forum messages, blog entries or stories).
Speech Computing uses a content management system. Its goal is to help users compose and present website content such as articles, blog or forum entries. You focus on what you want to say, the website will take it from there.
Most of the content the Speech Computing site - the text of this page, for example - is stored in a database. Text is submitted by filling in forms via your web-browser. When visitors view a page, the website gets the relevant bits of content from the database and composes all of the components of the page in a template. It then presents them to the visitor as a web page.
This user guide will explain these steps and help familiarize you with the basic information you need to use Speech Computing successfully.
For reference, the menu is on the right hand edge of your browser window. It dynamically shows who is online, available options and other information. A red asterisk (*) after the name part of a fill-in form indicates required information.
If you wish to print the entire guide (this page and all subpages), please click on 'printer friendly version' at the bottom of this. Then tell your browser to print the page.
